I've rolled on both brands of servers. And whilst there's more l33t people on the pvp servers, there tends to be BETTER players on there too. On average far better groups/raids/whatevers on pvp servers.

As said, it really does make you learn your class a bit more.

That said, if you're really getting ganked so hard, just move to a different zone for a while, and theres usually options to do so. Ganksbrad and STV tend to be bad places for pure levelling.

Wow, people bitching about pvp on a pvp server. It happens, get used to it. I usually never stereotype but holy hell it seems like all FFXI players quit WoW because they couldn't handle pvp. QQ more? no I'm not one of those "pvp happened no a pvp server" people but ffs grow a set and l2p seriously.

Yes you will get ganked. It happens. It makes you bitter and angry and hate the world more. And you will come back with vengence and destroy everyone who might have wronged you before. It will MAKE you like Dave for crying outloud! You live and learn.

STV was MADE so you have to learn how to play your damn class better to survive. Kind of sink or swim kind of way. You can ALWAYS find zones to level in where you won't get ganked or pvp. WoW would be expectionally boring if you couldn't pvp. See that horde/alliance over there taking your flower or your mine. Whoop his ass. Hell half the time I wish I could kill alliance more than horde.

The old school tarren mill/southshore battles were epic and I loved the isle dailies. Basically instigated fights. Eventually everyone would forget they were there for a reason and just haev an all out brawl. If you didn't like it, leave. It was that simple.

WoW's PvP is lame. The system of punishment for ganking people is apparently not severe enough. losing honor points for killing someone far below your level just doesn't work out.

The Best PvP system i have played in was on Lineage 2 (which is focused on the pvp element more than any other). The Karma system in it has some severe punishment that takes a lot of time and effort to resolve to keep from losing very expensive gear to people.

WoW's system is just a broken mess. Normal servers are better than PvP servers by a long shot because of the failure to address the punishment side. Perhaps if they instituted an eaten by dragon punishment for ganking low level players it might solve some of the issues.

@ tyranastrasz: That old "Jump into AOE" trick still works. At least, it did after my warrior first hit Northrend. I was out questing and fighting mobs, hit my whirlwind*, and suddenly got turned into a greasy spot by four nearby Allies. I was NOT flagged at the time, preferring my PVP to be in BGs and not out in the world. Yet they got me anyway, and I got flagged.

Just an FYI.

To [GM]Dave: PVP servers suck. Regular servers are much better (and not as rage-inducing). You can reach level 10-20 and get into some low-level BGs if you want to check it out. :)

I would much rather just go on my way, kill the evil monsters, and not have to deal with anyone unless I specifically needed their help.

To me, other people are tools.

I mean they are either resources to be used to my advantage or are just giant tools.

For this reason you should have loved WoW, since you can solo all the way to 80 and only group for group quest & low level dungeons - both which you can skip if you want, but they do give better loot which might speed up your leveling.

PVP. Ahhh...

I thank my lucky stars I didn't rolled on a PVP server, it would have taken forever to level or get anything done for the matter. ><

But even on a PVE server you can PVP if you want, but only if you willingly flag yourself.

Then there are Battlegrounds(BGs), which are basically instanced PVP battles.
Although BGs like WSG, AB are bracketed according to levels (etc. 10-19, 20-29) I recommend you stay out of them unless you are lvl-capped at lvl 80. They will be flooded with "twinks"***.

At lvl cap there is Wintergrasp, a non-instance PVP zone in Northend where if you enter you are instant flagged, which have battles every 2.5 hours or so.

There is also Arena, basically group duels with ranking. Most of the best PVP gear comes from here. Very competitive.

***Twinks being low lvl characters made by people whose main character have already hit 80, and have extra disposable gold.
So they roll a low lvl which they gear to the teeth with the best gear they can find, enchanted with the best enchantments they can get.
You can expect to get curbstompped by them 100% if you ever fight them.

If you keep rerolling, especially a paladin, you're just keeping yourself stuck in the first 10 or so levels. These are the most repetitive and boring levels ever. The exception being levels 30-50 tend to be less repetitive, but even more boring.

And stick to PvE servers. There's no involuntary ganking, and while some people will consider people who don't play on PvP servers "casual noobs who don't want to really play the game", it's because they're angry they have less people to gank.

I just wish you could hit 80 and enjoy a raid.

They give the anti-social psychotic douchebags a place to congregate so that the rest of us can play the game in peace.

Hypothetically, anyway. There's still some PvP on the PVE servers -- I've run into far too many flagged PVPers on the regular servers, who hang around the low level areas and wait for unflagged players to use area-damage spells...then jump into the area of effect, take the damage, and cause the unflagged player to be flagged.

THEN they gank 'em.

Of course, on a regular server, the PVP flag only lasts five minutes, so you can wait it out before rezzing.

But Dave, as the others said, you basically gave all the reasons I will never join a PVP server.

Now what you might want to do is get one of your toons to level 19, then join the Warsong Gulch battleground (do it horde-side -- Alliance sucks at Warsong, for some reason). That'll give you a bit of an idea of what MOST WoW PVP is like.

I have one character on a PvP server and I stopped playing him for this very reason. Actually, in one case I was minding my own business walking somewhere when a guy near my level killed me (as I wasn't paying attention).

So then I came back and killed him.

About 5 times.

The problem with WoW is that it's not a PvP based game. Before you write off PvP in general, I recommend playing a game that is based almost solely around PvP. Oddly enough, less douchebags tend to show up in those games.

It's just embarrassing to have to call your high level friends every time someone decides to spend his day sitting atop your mushy broken corpse. When I got a decent level I resented being called over to deal with a corpse camper every hour while I could be crafting or leveling. I joined a PvP server because my friends were there, but the corpse campers and other assorted a*holes eventually made me quit the game (and stat FFXI, so yay, I suppose).

As far as PvP goes, there is pretty much only one way to avoid ganking: Be one of the first characters on the server. When AoC was released I joined an RP-PvP server thinking there would be less assholes and more fun. For the first character I made, that was absolutely 100% true. Since I was leveling up with pretty much everyone else, there was no ganking. We had real PvP with rival guilds, competitions, RP-PvP Events, and a lot of other fun stuff.

Since my first character was so fun, I decided to roll another on the same server. Oh, how different that was. Gankers and campers abound. It sucked, because I couldn't grab my higher-level and teach them a lesson. See, there was a level cap of 25. Most people left at 20, because they didn't want to stay there any longer. My main was 75 by that point.

So ... Hunter ... what many WoW players will call "easy mode" ... be aware, that there's not much you'll be able to do and it will feel the same up to level 10, whereby you'll get a quest to go claim your first pet .. you'll be asked to go around and tame with a taming rod certain beasties .... then when you prove you've tamed it, you are given the next rod to tame the next breed ... what they don't tell you is that you have to dismiss your current pet to be able to claim a new one ... target your pet, right click on it's frame, then dismiss it there.

Once you've tamed the different things and given the actual tame beasts skill to tame your perm pet... choose a cat, it'll be great damage output and keep the hate off yourself while you shoot it from afar. I'd say do dwarven hunter or whichever horde characters gets native bow/gun specialization and go with that ... make the early leveling much easier ... oh, and to make easy money to be able to pay for your ammo, choose two gathering abilities ... skinning is almost a must (get to skin any beasties you kill) and either mining or herbalism ... sell everything you skin and gather and use that money to fund your shooting ... seeing as you can't exploit the heck out of the auction house on a trial account -.-

I played exclusively on PvP servers for years (mostly at the insistence of my friends), so believe me, I'm speaking from experience when I say you'll almost never experience real PvP on a PvP server. One out of every ten or so encounters with the opposite faction will be with someone your own level that you can have a decent fight with. The other nine will be against the roaming idiots who seek to validate their existences by insta-gibbing players 20+ levels lower than them.

World PvP in WoW is mostly dead. WoW's real PvP happens in instanced battlegrounds and arenas, most of which don't open up until you reach the high levels. However, the lower battlegrounds are basically the playground for people with other, max level characters, because half the people you run into in them are loaded up with items and enchantments no actual newbie could ever realistically afford. So real newbies just end up getting steamrolled by people they have no chance against, just like in world PvP.

Honestly, WoW PvP is terrible until you get to a fairly high level, where more of the different PvP venues are open and the playing field is more level. Even then it's not that great, but it actually does have some potential to be fun, unlike watching Xxdarkninjastabxx sit on your corpse for an hour. And since all the regular PvP venues are open on Normal servers also, there's really no reason to play on a PvP server unless you're a glutton for punishment.
