Just a few quick comments here.

1) Yes you do have to install most Blu-ray games on PS3, least most of the ones I play, so not so much of a magic disc there.

2) the disc changing in Mass Effect isnt that often unless you play all your missions ass-backwards. the first round of missions and quests are on the first disc, the latter on the second, and only the final mission takes you back to the first disc. so were talking 2 disk changes max unless you play some strange mix of new missions and old quests. in which case thats your own damn fault.

3) Mass Effect 1 and 2 are awesome, nuff said.

Agreed, considering it's too much to ask for for people to just all of a sudden make smart comments or constructive criticism on a game.

BTW Mass Effect 2 is one of the most amazing games i have been privileged enough to play. When was the last time you saw a good game that could import saves from the previous title and the decisions you made before alter the story in amazing ways? .Hack maybe?

@Jeff the blu-ray version of DMC4 had a very long install time on the PS3. blu-ray isn't the answer to the 'zomg install/changing disks suckz' phenomena. Large games with loads of gameplay will always = install time or multiple disks, and i can't say i'm upset about it. Still to this day multiple disks means as much to me as it did when i opened FF7, i actually bragged about the multiple disks on ME2 to a buddy as a selling point for him to get it.

Well, not all 360s are capable of "installs". For most part the developer can't even count on the a hard drive being there to even use for cacheing.

usually games install the content that's "always" there and leave things like cinematics to be played from the disc. Diabolo 2 for instance. You had the option to install the videos but you didn't have to. The only thing you needed to install was the gameplay stuff. When videos came up you'd simply pop the disc in and watch it then pop the play disc back in. The reason for this was memory was not so cheap as it is now. I still know people with 10gb HDD's from way back when.

What I read said FF 13 is on 3 discs for the 360. My only complaint is having to change the disc when I have it installed on my darn hard drive, but I get why I guess. I agree with the feeling of more discs being better quality though so I don't mind it at all.

As far as I know, DMC never needed an install, unless that was only on the PS3 for DMC4. (I have 1-3 and 4 for 360)

I've recently got a PS3 and with it, Metal Gear Solid 4... Big game...

Also, it has to do a little install before each chapter. But I like the way it seems to do it. 8min install when you first start the game, installs required files needed for everything as well as the first chapter's files. Then a shorter 2-4 min install for each chapter after. best part, it deletes older chapters so it won't take up any more space.

Also, they make a joke about having to change discs in MGS1 and then go "oh we're on blu-ray".

And I guarantee that ff13 will have a minimum 4 discs on 360 for the fact that Lost Odessy is only about 25-35 hours long and is 4.

I mostly agree with you.
The only area that I don't agree with you is in regard to old pc games. Some of which had 7-10 discs, and you had to swap a cd to go to a different building. This issue was compounded when most of the information stored on the disc involved the three to five minute walk to the character/plot point. In puzzle games frequent disc changing became very tedious. It wasn't a game breaker by any stretch of the imagination, but it was annoying.
Anyway.
I really did wish such a magical world did exist. This is party because I would love to see the ass-backwards complaints these Paragons of Intelect(P.o.I.) would have about such a world. Somehow I can hear the phrase
P.o.I.: "This whole perfection thing could be better." being uttered.
As far as I have been able to tell, based on PS1/2 titles, especially in comparison to the corresponding generation of Nintendo console, multiple discs always meant more content. It may not have always meant quality, but you could safely bet that a game with 4 discs wasn't going to be short. You were likely going to be put into a detailed world with lots of detailed characters and hopefully a well-crafted story. While not completely accurate, you could generalize games with more discs as better because you could do more with the added space the additional disc/s allowed.

Jeff, Blu-ray IS the norm now. HD-DVD (the 360's format) lost. No one outside of lol360 code for HD-DVD now. Its either DVD or Blu-Ray for movies.
