The moment someone threatens another human being's life, that person should lose all rights as a human being. And the very act of breaking and entering is an act of threatening any occupant's lives. The way I see it, the burglar was put down like a rabid dog.

I think it was totally justified. I mean, if no one was home and he robbed them that is no problem. Insurance can cover whatever was taken.

The moment he entered the house with people inside, I would have deemed him dangerous. Plus, he lunged at the students, it doesn't matter what he was trying to do violent or not. That kind of action would automatically translate into an attack by a burglar and I'd defend myself accordingly.
